The short answer
Ask the coating supplier to identify the required concrete surface profile and agree who checks it before the first coating layer covers the preparation. A quotation that promises grinding describes an activity, but does not establish the accepted result. Keep the preparation review linked to the exact floor system and the areas actually inspected.
Ask for the required result alongside the proposed method
When comparing Saskatoon commercial floor proposals, put the proposed coating system and its preparation requirement on the same page. Ask the supplier or specifier to identify the applicable document and the surface-profile requirement. Have the contractor explain how its preparation allowance addresses that requirement across the included area. A machine name on an estimate leaves this outcome unresolved.
ICRI's introduction to its concrete-preparation guideline describes surface profile as the roughness left after preparation. It explains that profile chips can be used to compare a prepared surface with a specified range, while other tests address additional preparation questions. The article is historical technical background, not a current project specification. Obtain the applicable requirements for the actual system instead of copying a profile number from its example.

Define which floor areas the review will represent
Give the reviewer a plan showing open bays, perimeter strips, repaired patches and areas beneath equipment that will move later. Ask which locations need separate review and how the result will be documented. Let the responsible specialist choose the assessment method and coverage. The owner needs to understand the represented area without becoming the person who specifies or operates preparation equipment.
Use a short review entry for each agreed zone: location, proposed system, requirement reference, observation, reviewer and decision. Attach photographs as location records rather than treating a phone image as a calibrated roughness measurement. If a strip remains inaccessible, label it unreviewed. Do not apply the result from the centre of an open bay to every edge by assumption.
Put the review before the surface disappears
Agree a notification point between preparation and the layer that will cover it. Name the person who can release the area and arrange their access within the contractor's proposed sequence. Ask how the prepared area will remain protected while a decision is outstanding. If review cannot happen as planned, obtain a revised sequence before the work passes the agreed inspection point.
For an illustrative stockroom, the main bay might be ready for review while a former cabinet footprint still needs preparation. The decision could release the documented bay and hold the footprint, if the contractor's sequence allows that separation. The record should identify both outcomes. Neither a completed equipment hire nor an invoice for grinding supplies the missing acceptance evidence.
Resolve a mismatch without inventing a new target
If the reviewer finds a mismatch, ask for its location, the applicable requirement and a corrective proposal. Have the supplier or specifier resolve whether the proposed system or preparation must change. Record any authorized revision separately from the original findings. Request the actual cost and programme effect before expanding work, and agree who checks the corrected area.
Keep this decision separate from moisture, contamination, existing-treatment history and the completed coating's thickness. A profile review does not settle those questions. Retain the preparation record with the final floor documents so later concerns can be traced to the original release. Bring the evidence requirement to an industrial coating discussion with PainterzRus and confirm the offered inspection and installation scope; this guide provides no testing service or universal profile target.
Keep this for your project
Your planning checklist
- Link the profile requirement to the exact proposed floor system.
- Map review locations and identify inaccessible areas.
- Assign the reviewer and a release point before coating.
- Record findings, exceptions and any authorized correction.
- Keep profile acceptance separate from other substrate checks.
Does a quotation that includes grinding prove the surface will be ready?
It states a proposed activity. Ask what result the selected system requires, who will verify it and how exceptions will be resolved before coating proceeds.
