The short answer

Before authorizing exterior washing for a commercial repaint, ask for a site-specific plan showing where the water will go, how it will be collected and who confirms its receiving route. Keep unresolved drainage connections and waste characteristics visible. A clean wall does not establish that the preparation water was managed appropriately.

Make preparation water part of the purchase

A Saskatoon commercial repaint proposal may include washing without explaining the water-management scope. Ask the estimator to identify the surfaces being cleaned, the proposed cleaning materials and what existing deposits or finishes may enter the wash water. Unknown coating history should remain an assessment item, not disappear inside a general preparation allowance.

Request separate responsibilities for collection, any required review of the water, removal and evidence of the receiving route. Identify whether the owner must provide information or access before the contractor can price those tasks. This is a purchasing brief; the contractor and relevant specialists must determine the actual collection method and any assessment needed before disturbance.

Compare proposals using the same boundary. A wash-only line and a line including collection and removal are different scopes. Ask for the actual implications of completing the missing work rather than assuming that an unpriced task will be absorbed by building staff.

Trace the route beyond the foot of the wall

Ask the property representative and contractor to review the paved area below each elevation, nearby entrances and visible drainage points. Use existing property drainage records where available. Mark uncertain connections for confirmation by the responsible building professional; a grate's location or appearance does not identify its destination.

The City of Saskatoon explains that water entering its curbside storm drains reaches the South Saskatchewan River without treatment. That makes the drainage route a relevant question before exterior washing begins. The City's general description does not identify a particular private drain or approve a proposed discharge.

For an illustrative storefront with a forecourt sloping toward the curb, ask the contractor to explain how its proposed collection arrangement accounts for that slope. A drawing can identify the review area without becoming a do-it-yourself containment design. Do not authorize staff to obstruct drains or modify drainage infrastructure.

Confirm acceptance before naming a drain

The City's Sewer Use Bylaw information explains that sanitary discharges are subject to substance restrictions and identifies Environmental Protection Officers as a resource for evaluating discharge practices. A sanitary connection therefore needs its own review; it is not an automatic alternative for collected preparation water.

Have the party responsible for water management give the relevant receiving authority or operator the proposed material information and ask what evidence is needed. Record the answer, any conditions and the specific route it covers. Do not describe a pending enquiry as permission, or infer acceptance from a cleaner's marketing description.

If acceptance is unresolved, keep the washing release open and request a revised proposal from the contractor. A different collection or removal arrangement may change the scope. Obtain that proposal before work begins. This guide does not determine a permit requirement, classify the waste or provide discharge limits.

Assign the pause and restart decision

Before the first wash, identify who confirms that the agreed collection and receiving arrangements are ready. Ask the contractor to state what changes would require it to pause the affected work and reassess. Examples for discussion include an unexpected drainage path, a changed cleaning material or weather that alters the reviewed arrangement.

Give the property contact a clear notification route. The contractor should resolve the changed condition with the responsible reviewer before restarting affected washing. Keep emergency or spill response under the site's established procedures; this purchasing checklist does not replace them.

At handover, retain the available collection and receiving records alongside any unresolved exceptions. Review the cleaned surface separately for its readiness to receive paint. Bring both boundaries to a commercial exterior discussion with PainterzRus and confirm the work offered. No water-treatment, waste-carriage or specialist drainage capability is represented by this article.

Keep this for your project

Your planning checklist

  • Identify washing materials, affected surfaces and unresolved coating history.
  • Review drainage paths and confirm uncertain connections.
  • Assign collection and receiving-route responsibilities in the quotation.
  • Resolve receiving conditions before releasing washing.
  • Record changes, restart decisions and the available removal evidence.

Can collected wash water go into a nearby sanitary drain?

Do not assume acceptance from the drain type alone. Have the responsible party confirm the connection and review the actual water with the relevant authority or receiving operator before discharge. Keep the route unresolved until that review is complete.
