The short answer

Before ordering a writable wall, define where people will write and how the finished surface will be accepted. Request a product-specific proposal and an agreed writing-and-erasing demonstration after the manufacturer's release conditions are met. A smooth, newly painted wall is not evidence that the intended meeting-room tool works.

Draw the writing area before requesting a price

For a Saskatoon meeting room, mark the intended writing rectangle on a room sketch. Show furniture, switches and the positions from which people need to read it. Decide whether the entire wall is meant for writing or only a defined section. Adjacent ordinary paint should not become part of the writing area simply because it looks similar.

Give the estimator the existing wall and finish records. IdeaPaint's White product description identifies properly prepared, smooth surfaces as the basis for its dry-erase coating. Use that as a reason to request a substrate assessment, not as permission to cover an unidentified wall with any glossy paint. Ask for the proposed preparation and exact system separately from the room's decorative repaint.

Write the functional review into the proposal

Ask the supplier and contractor to agree a representative trial and a later handover demonstration. Record the proposed marker, eraser, review area and release conditions. IdeaPaint's FAQ recommends testing the chosen marker on a small area and gives different writing-release periods for different products. Obtain the current instructions for the actual system instead of copying a waiting period from another product.

After the relevant release, have the responsible parties observe writing and erasing with the agreed supplies. Record legibility, removal of marks and any remaining residue as observations, then document acceptance or the question still open. This is a proposed purchasing check, not a standardized durability test. One successful demonstration cannot establish years of performance.

Give the room a dedicated care kit and owner

IdeaPaint's care guide calls for regular removal of ink residue and warns against unsuitable general cleaners and dirty erasers. The selected manufacturer's instructions should govern the supplies provided with the wall. Do not assume the building's ordinary wall-washing kit is also the right kit for its writing surface.

Name the person who replenishes supplies and reports a problem. Keep the accepted writing boundary, product identity and care instructions together in the room record. If marks remain, preserve the marker and cleaning details for supplier review; do not let repeated improvised treatment replace an assessment. Agree who handles that review before the installer leaves.

Hold the purchase if the writing requirement remains unresolved

An illustrative office decision might approve the wall's colour but hold the writable finish until the specified supplies and demonstration are available. Keep those decisions separate. If the proposed system cannot meet the room's brief, compare a separately specified mounted board before extending coating work. No cost or performance advantage should be assumed for either option.

Bring the room sketch and intended use to a commercial interior scope discussion. Confirm product supply, installer suitability and the functional review before booking this specialist finish. This guide does not establish that PainterzRus supplies or installs a particular dry-erase system.

Keep this for your project

Your planning checklist

  • Mark the exact writing boundary and normal viewing positions.
  • Request a substrate assessment and named dry-erase system.
  • Agree supplies, release conditions and the functional demonstration.
  • Record appearance approval separately from writing acceptance.
  • Assign care supplies and unresolved-performance follow-up.

Does a high-gloss white wall automatically work as a whiteboard?

Do not infer writing performance from colour or sheen. Specify a suitable dry-erase system, obtain its current instructions and review the agreed writing-and-erasing result before accepting the surface for that purpose.
